Sometimes I’ll go through Pinterest and pin a bunch of ‘inspirational quotes’ but when I look back after my daily pinning process,I realise there are so many different messages being thrown at us.
Maybe you’re on Instagram and you are reading someones inspirational post about how you should love yourself or be happy with who you are (popular topics nowadays) but you just don’t know how to be yourself or why it is important to be yourself or you just don’t love yourself at all.
There is so many different scenarios that I could have included, but my point is how many times are the phrases like ‘You do You’ thrown around on social media. I’m not saying these are bad things because I am definitely passionate about people living their best lives and being themselves but sometimes I think how messed up and loosely these phrases are thrown around. Do we really know who we are, are we being influenced by the world. I just think these phrases can be taken out of context and used as excuses to backup things we know are wrong.
For me comparison plays a big part in me ‘being myself’ ,it’s very easy to look at other peoples lives wishing you could be them or live the way they do.
But after all this struggle inside with all these messages flooding through my brain, the question remains, is there a right way to be yourself?
Everyone’s telling me to be myself and they seem to have it all together, so why is it taken me so long to figure myself out? Ever asked yourself a question like that, I know I have.
Let’s uncover some lies that make us feel like what we spoke about above and cover them in truth
They DO NOT have it all figured out!
Girl, I know their Instagram looks perfect and that they’re living your dream life. But that does not mean your life is less than theirs. This season is your season for a reason, God has got you right now. You can live out YOUR life with purpose, just as much as that girl on Instagram can. Your YOU is different to hers.
YOU Do YOU is not an excuse
Maybe you think everything goes now because you are just being yourself. It doesn’t work like that, God is the father and He is in control. He is there to guide you to be yourself. You don’t need to create this image or idea of perfection to be yourself.
Look what Psalm 139:14-16 says:
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
God has given you unique quirks, dreams and that’s exactly how you can be yourself.
We don’t need to hide behind the masks of the world telling you to be you but we can live out our full purpose through what God says about us.
A big part of all things The Different Girl is being the YOU God has created. So stand tall, put on a smile and give today your best shot.
