I was introduced to music at a young age, as my mother was passionate about singing and always had music playing in the house. This was the first way in which I was exposed to music. I also was fascinated by the worship team at church. I loved singing as a child and I remember always going to sit right in front at church so that I could have the full experience of worship. I was especially intrigued by the piano player at church. I saw his passion and the way he put his heart and soul into worshiping God through music.
I realised that I wanted to do that too.
So I begged and begged my parents to get me a piano and finally, when I was nine years old, I received a little upright piano for Christmas and started lessons.
Fast forward through years of hard work and dedication, and now I am the pianist on our worship team at church, and there is nothing that fills my heart with more joy than being able to honour the Lord with my gift.
Over the years, I have realised that I was born to be a musician and I am so thankful that God has chosen this path for me because I don’t know where I would be without it. Music has introduced me to amazing people and a really close-knit community. I don’t know what I’d have done if I’d entered high school as a non-musician. It was like I instantly had a family and a place to be my home away from home. I made friends through various ensembles, such as choir, orchestra, and concert band.
Now, as I prepare to leave high school, I am even more grateful because I know exactly what I want to do. There are so many people who are unsure of what they want to do once they graduate, but for me the decision was clear.
Music has been a great influence in my life and I am so proud to be a musician.
